Sheep at Hearthside Farm!!!!!!!

Our Lovely Suffolk black-faced and Rambouillet sheep have safely arrived complete with newborn lambs -both black and white! We are very busy bottle feeding the babies around the clock and watching the mothers-to-be for signs of labor.

For those of you who would love to take on another level of self-suficiancy, have the frustrated soul of a shepherdess, or simply want to further your support of local, sustainable agriculture, we are also happy to announce that we now have our long-expected "sheep shares" available!
This is a great way to get involved if you love to spin, knit, weave or just love sheep and want to participate in our exciting sustainable fiber events.

When you purchase a share in our Sheep CSA you are investing in our 2010 “yarn harvest."

You will receive

~ten large skeins of LOCALLY RAISED yarn or roving which you may dye at our workshop(PARTY!) or use in its natural state

~a shareholder's certificate complete with photo of your sheep

~ regular farm updates

~ complimentary admissions to our shearing, fiber and dyeing workshops

Shareholders are encouraged to come out and visit their sheep, and if desired, to help with feeding or upkeep chores (a great way to learn)
Come and get your picture taken with them and bring them a treat if you like!
After shearing, we’ll let our friends at the mill work their magic and shortly thereafter you’ll receive your share of the harvest. The number of skeins, yardage, etc., will depend on the size of the clip but we do limit the number of shareholders so that everyone gets a bountiful supply. We also offer a "Spinner's Share" consisting of raw roving.

Our farm practices humane and land-sustainable animal husbandry. We use herbal and homeopathic remedies when neccesary. Our sheep graze on organic pasture 9 months out of the year and we supplement with quality hay and a healthful, whole grain ration.

2010 share prices are $200
Your shareholder fees are applied directly to...

~winter feeding needs (grains and hay) ~fencing and fence repairs ~sheep pedicures and grooming needs ~herbal wormers and treatments ~the love and care it takes to produce quality fiber

Spaces are limited-----Reserve your share now!
